Bear Creek

Bear CreekWhat's a "creek" doing in this noble list of streams? Well, Bear Creek is somewhat smaller than most of the streams we fish. But, it's a tributary to the Manistee downstream of Tippy Dam. That means this over-achieving stream, often only as wide as two lengths of a fly rod, gets the same spring and fall runs of migratory fish as the Manistee.

In addition to the migratory fish, brook and brown trout can be found. While Bear Creek is not nationally recognized as a destination fishery, it often yields the earliest catches of steelhead in both spring and fall. Its wading access lets anglers work the water on foot, a fly fishing pleasure in its own right.
