Clarence Roberts, Ray Schmidt's uncle, is the originator of this fly and a whole series of flies called the Roberts Drake series. The Roberts Yellow Drake is the most famous of all his patterns. Uncle Clarence is gone now, but his fame and flies live on throughout the fly tying world.
Back in the day, Clarence and his cronies in Grayling, Michigan would get together in his basement and shoot the bull and talk trout and certainly trout flies. The Roberts Yellow Drake is meant to imitate lots of bugs that frequent the Northern Michigan streams, i.e. Sulphurs, Little Yellow Stones, and various other Mayfly bugs. We offer this pattern in several sizes to reflect different insects. Try a handful, you won’t be disappointed.
