Bear Creek is actually a good-sized river with flows equal to the Little Manistee and similiar to the Pine River. This river is the major spawning tributary to the Manistee River system and provides most of the wild runs of steelhead and salmon for this area.
In addition to the migratory fish, brook, rainbow and brown trout call this river home. While Bear Creek is not nationally recognized as a destination fishery, it often yields the earliest catches of steelhead in both spring and fall. Wading access lets anglers work the water on foot, a fly fishing pleasure in its own right. The Bear has great hatches of insects throughout the bug season.
Access is limited on the Bear. Schmidt Outfitters has private access available to our guided guests. Please contact Ray Schmidt at the shop for further details about this great opportunity. 888-221-9056
