Michigan Fly Fishing Report
Date : July 22nd, 2008
General Fishing Conditions...Hopper Time!
Our river conditions are generally good this time of year, but rivers can change in a matter of minutes, not hours or days with a sudden thunderstorm, so reports that are generated yesterday do not necessarily reflect the mode of the river today.
Check our web site and look at river flows via the USGS web site and this will help you knowing if the river is going up or coming down. The USGS site gauges are updated about every 3 hours.
Manistee River - Below Tippy Dam
Water levels are still a bit above normal, but fishing has been excellant and the river is generally cooler this year due to all the rain.
Trout and Small Mouth Bass fishing is the name of the game below Tippy right now and for the rest of the summer.
Caddis, Blue Winged Olives, Soft Hackle flies and Streamers are the way to go. Check our selection at the fly shop.
Manistee River - Below Hodenpyl Dam
The water is a bit above the normal for this time of year. Our guides report much better fishing than last year so far. Big dry flies are working well as are streamers. Read Jay's Guide Report.
Visit the USGS Big Manistee River Water Flow Data (USGS) for detailed water flow information, graphs and charts. We also have an information page on the Manistee River
